DENSO welcomes 76 daughters
Date: 2000-04-17 Seventy-six area girls, ages 10 to 14, will get a hands-on introduction to the manufacturing world when DENSO Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. opens its doors to associates’ daughters on Thursday, April 27, for “Take Our Daughters to Work Day.”
This marks the company’s eighth year of participation in “Take Our Daughters to Work Day,” a national event originated by the Ms. Foundation for Women to build self-esteem in adolescent girls and educate them about career options. This year’s theme is “Free to Be You and Me.”
Over 50 DMMI associates have volunteered to mentor the girls and show them various jobs at the plant, in areas such as accounting, administration, communications, engineering, machine design, robotics, skilled trades, production, purchasing and quality assurance.
The girls will tour the plant, visit parents’ work sites and participate in hands-on learning activities.
“We, as a company, look forward to this event each year because we know we have an impact by introducing the daughters of our associates to the variety of technical and professional jobs available,” says Barb Ley, company spokeswoman.
“I hope this event will be a great learning experience,” says Ley. “Hopefully, it will be inspirational, too.”
