DENSO honors associate volunteers
Date: 2001-02-14 DENSO Mfg. Michigan, Inc. (DMMI) recognized dozens of warm-hearted associates at this year’s Warm Hearts Awards, Feb. 14, and chose two to receive $100 for the charity of their choice.
The winners, Chris Tobias, Machine Finishing, and Takane Hinds, Product Design, take different approaches to assisting others, but both accomplish great things, according to company president Jim Tsuboi.
The company honored Tobias for dedicating his one-week vacation last year to spend time with the Appalachian Project building and repairing homes for underprivileged people in the Appalachian area.
A corporate panel also chose Takane Hinds as a Warm Heart Award winner because of the constant assistance and care she provides, without compensation, to an elderly Japanese neighbor who lives alone.
DMMI invited all nominees and the associates who nominated them to a ceremony on Valentine’s Day, where the President gave out gifts and certificates of recognition.
“We are honored to have you not only as members of our company, but also as members of our community,” Tsuboi said.
The company had a record number of nominations this year, according to Jim Burkheimer of DMMI’s Corporate Service department. This is the eleventh annual ceremony honoring associate’s volunteer activities.
Two nominees are also being considered for Calhoun County’s Corporate Volunteer Award for their work with the American Cancer Society. Alan Schneider nominated Robin Beurmann for the many events she organizes and participates in for the society, while Schneider received a nomination from co-worker John VanderVoort for his tremendous efforts with the “Relay for Life.”
Warm Heart nominees for 2001 were Alan Schneider, Holly Glover, Tammy Chapman, Joe McCotter, Lorraine Thompson, Dave Ball, Dixie Christensen, Pat Strasser, Jeannie Bragagnini, Keven Chappel, Brian Wemple, Robin Beurmann, Kevin Carson, Florence King, Jim Broe, the Blower Assembly Department second shift, HVAC first shift and “The Breakfast Club,” a group of associates who provide breakfast to palliative care patients at the Veteran’s Hospital.
DENSO Manufacturing Michigan, a tier-one automotive supplier of advanced heating and cooling systems, is the largest Battle Creek employer.
