DMMI Expansion
Date: 2003-06-17 BATTLE CREEK, Mich. --- DENSO Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. announced today that it will build a $9-million expansion at its facility in Ft. Custer Industrial Park. The 92,000-square-foot expansion at the north end of the plant will provide space for a new aluminum radiator line and a new aluminum heater core line.
The DENSO Corporation Board of Directors approved the expansion on June 16 in Japan.
With the new addition, the total size of the plant will be 1,070,000 square feet. The last expansion at the company was in 1993 when a 91,000-square-foot expansion, also accommodating aluminum product lines, was built.
Akio (Alex) Shikamura, DENSO Manufacturing Michigan president, says: “From the first day here in 1986, DENSO has been committed to customer satisfaction. This commitment, the hard work of our associates and the support of the community have been key to our growth and success.”
“We have undergone steady growth in the last few years, making this expansion a necessity,” says Dave Everhart, senior vice president of Operations. “We are pleased that we have proven ourselves to be a strong company able to meet our customers’ demands with exceptionally high quality parts and service.”
Stan Tooley, senior vice president of Corporate Affairs, adds, “With the expansion, we may hire up to 300 associates in the next two years and are particularly pleased that during this time of economic downturn we can employ additional associates at our Battle Creek facility.”
Additionally, a two-way road from the company’s parking lot, on the east side of the facility, is being built to connect to Clark Road. It will provide a second access for associates entering and exiting from work.
