DMMI Wins 'Best Practices' Awards
Date: 2005-05-05 BATTLE CREEK--Two kaizen team projects and the company’s BEAM suggestion program resulted in five Best Practices awards for DENSO Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. (DMMI) from the Center for Suggestion System Development.
Competing with organizations from around the globe, DMMI was selected as a top three finalist in five of 19 different competitions. The CSSD’s purpose is to help organizations implement and improve their suggestion systems at work by using current methods and practical tools.
The goal of kaizen teams at DMMI is to continually improve processes plant-wide. The Shifty Bunch, which received an award for Best Team Suggestion for Quality, identified root causes and implemented countermeasures to eliminate plate-shift defects in the production of evaporators. The six-person team succeeded in reducing plate scrap by 71.2% in the evaporator area. Dent Destroyers received an award for Best Team Suggestion for Customer Satisfaction, eliminating 30.2% of tube dents on a condenser line.
DMMI’s BEAM program received awards in the categories of Number of Suggestions Adopted, Motivational Award/Award Structure and Successful Promotional/Marketing Tool.
