DENSO associates donate to Toys for Tots
Date: 1998-12-15 DENSO MANUFACTURING MICHIGAN, Inc. associates rallied to raise over $2600 and several hundred new toys for Toys for Tots - a donation drive organized each year by the Marine Corps to enhance Christmas for the needy children across the nation.
For the second year, DENSO plant engineering associates collected returnable pop bottles and new, unwrapped toy donations from DMMI associates to help make the holidays merrier for children across Southwest Michigan.
DENSO organizers, Lorraine Thompson and Fran O’Neill (plant engineering associates) realize the holidays are about giving, and no one is more deserving than children. “Since Christmas is about giving, there is no better way to show it than to give a less fortunate child a gift,” Lorraine says. “Who is more worthy than a child?”
Fran shares a similar view. “The world is sometimes harsh, so why subject them to it before their time?” she asks. “Let them be children, even if it’s only on Christmas morning. That’s our reason for volunteering for Toys for Tots.”
DENSO’s donations were presented to First Sergeant Tim Scott and Staff Sergeant Todd Koleski of the 6th Engineering Battalion on December 15. An enthusiastic First Sergeant Scott found it hard to find words to describe the efforts of DENSO’s associates.
“We would like to take the time to say thanks,” Scott said. “They have done some super things.”
Lorraine and Fran thank all associates who donated to this cause and would like to give special recognition to two groups - the aluminum heater core maintenance team, who donated their Christmas Party fund of $230, and the DENSO Social Activities Committee, who donated several hundred toys leftover from the DENSO Children’s Holiday Party.
Last year, DENSO associates donated $1,089 to Toys for Tots.
