DMMI Clean Corporate Citizen
Date: 2006-02-06

BATTLE CREEK, Mich.— Some companies depend on PR staff to talk up their environmental records. But DENSO Manufacturing Michigan, Inc.’s (DMMI), record speaks for itself.

For the seventh year in a row, DMMI has been designated as a Michigan Clean Corporate Citizen (C3) in a program recognizing environmental stewardship. The program is sponsored by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.

Participation in the C3 program is voluntary. The criteria for meeting the designation include the development and implementation of an environmental management system, the practice of pollution prevention, and a strong environmental compliance record.

Among DMMI’s environmental achievements:

• The recycling of 78.2 percent of all wastes generated

• Reducing 2004 solid wastes formerly going to landfill by 1.7 million pounds

• Recycling 12.9 million pounds of materials including scrap metal, plastics, and pallets

• Reducing 2004 water usage by 48 million gallons

• Decreasing 2004 CO2 emissions by 3,318 metric tons

• Continued ISO 14001 certification since 1998

The company is also a member of the Michigan Business Pollution Prevention Partnership. On the national level, DMMI is a charter member of EPA Performance Track, which mirrors the C3 program, and has recently joined the EPA’s SmartWay program for conservation in shipping and transportation.

DMMI’s record of environmental excellence reflects DENSO Corporation’s global commitment to environmental stewardship.

One of DENSO’s main priorities is pursuit of a sustainable society through environmental preservation. To accomplish this, DENSO’s corporate headquarters in Japan recently announced a new long-term environmental policy, “DENSO EcoVision 2015,” and its environmental action plans through 2010.

Among its many goals, DENSO EcoVision 2015 focuses on developing environmentally friendly products, expanding efforts to reduce CO2 emissions and reducing the environmental burden on society.

Japan-based DENSO Corporation, a leading global supplier of advanced automotive technology, systems and components, employs 104,000 people in 31 countries with global sales totaling US$26.2 billion for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2005. In the Americas, DENSO employs more than 15,000 people at 33 companies with sales for the above fiscal year totaling US$5.4 billion. DENSO International America serves as DENSO’s North American headquarters.
